The retreat brought families together to be refreshed by the beauty of God's creation, inspired in hope and love, and encouraged by the baptism of 4 young people.

From May 8–10, 2015, a family retreat was held in the state of Virginia on the topic, “Love at Home,” with over 80 persons present, including visitors from far and near. This rejuvenating event took place in the natural scenery of a 120-acre peninsula at Smith Mountain Lake, the same location where the 22nd General Conference Delegation Session will be held in 2015. During this retreat, we took time to step away from the busy-ness of daily toil to commune with God and our fellow believers in the beauty of God’s creation, bringing refreshment to everyone.

At a time when the family institution has become a main target of attack, now more than ever before, we as a people need to be fortified in this area. The theme of this event focused on how we can have a taste of Heaven through the exercise of practical religion in the family and how the faithful implementation of these principles will bring the family to become a center for missionary work.

The presentation of these timely topics brought us a reminder of God’s plan for the home circle and stimulated progressive action. Throughout the meetings, emphasis was placed on the fact that God’s love must first dwell in our own hearts before it can shine forth to those around us. And as that light shines forth, Christ has told us that it is by this manifestation of Divine love in the home, in the church, and in the world—that all men shall know we are His disciples.

On Sabbath there were separate workshops for the brothers and sisters, dealing with the general tendencies of each—tendencies upon which all can improve. There was also a group nature walk with a view of the lake, during which we were challenged by a treasure hunt for Bible verses hidden in tree trunks along the path. In the evening, we were favored with musical and other special items by each family present.

On Sunday morning, we, together with the celestial choir, celebrated the spiritual birth of 4 young people through baptism. What a magnificent way to close a conference on the family! The church is indeed the representation of God’s family on earth.

Let us remember to keep these newly baptized souls in prayer as well as all our youth—that they may be strong and of good courage, prepared to stand alone one day, carrying the torch of truth to this perishing world.
